He then realizes who the stranger is and is more disconcerted than ever. On the basketball team, the team's former best player, John Hartwell, gives Jamal a hard time. The disdainful tension is strong and soon leads to a fight that the coach settles with a competition. Both players make fifty shots in a row and while everyone is elated, Hartwell is bitter and tells Jamal that no matter what anyone else thinks, they will never be the same, Hartwell will always be better.
