In William Golding's realistic fiction novel Lord of the Flies, many British boys are trapped on a desert island after their plane unexpectedly crashes. The majority of the novel the boys spend picking on each other and fighting to keep their sanity. Therefore, Lord of the Flies is very similar to the bullying that occurs at Wilmington High School due to the lack of kindness, lack of understanding, and ignorance that occurs on a daily basis.First, the lack of kindness in this book is very important. . For example, when a first emergency fire is needed on the island, the group of boys decide to use Piggy's glasses as fire starters, despite Piggy's protests. "'Here, let me go!' Her voice rose to a scream of terror as Jack ripped the glasses from her face” (Golding 40). This excerpt shows how the majority of the boys on the island are very mean and malicious towards Piggy. Most boys accept bullying because the way Jack describes it is interesting and intriguing....
