    Twenty years later, Tommy has achieved immense success and is married and has two amazing children. Unfortunately, after the trial, his mother's esteem declined. She suffered from severe depression and could no longer support herself. When his father was released from prison, Tommy had no interest in his return. Tommy hated his father, whom he once cherished and appreciated. Tommy happily supported his mother, but always resented his father. Resentment is defined as “bitter indignation at having been treated unjustly” (Oxford Dictionaries). This strong resentment and rage led to hatred and he refused to have any further contact with his father. He continued to raise his children without a grandfather. In other words, resentment explains the anger expressed towards an individual who has wronged us. As a child, Tommy loved his father; he believed himself to be “superman” and respected him.
