  • Essay / RESPECT - 705

Please and thank you are the magic words. Almost every child has heard this phrase, but they don't put it into practice. Growing up, respect was one of the most important things in our home. Say please, thank you, excuse me, go wash your own plate, help your grandmother clean the house, help get things out of the car, keep the door open for others, these are just some of the things my parents told us to do. Today, it is very rare to see this kind of respect, especially among today's young people. When we see respect, for example, a young man holding the door open for an older lady, we are impressed, we applaud it and we are very impressed by it. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying it's sad that it's so rare to see this, it should just come naturally, not something we don't know so well that we're so impressed . People don't understand the meaning of respect, they don't seem to care how others see them. They do not appreciate the value of what others do for them. What is respect? Where did he go? Why don't we see it as much as we used to? Respect means something different to everyone. To me, respect means always being kind and polite, no matter the situation, it means treating others the way you would like to be treated. Others would define it as something that everyone expects, but they are not willing to give it. Respect means giving without expecting something in return but respect is also a two way street if you want it you should be willing to give it. People believe that they are entitled to everything, they think that they deserve the best, this is a bad idea because they then become selfish. I came across this quote from Criss Jami saying, “Man by nature does not deserve everything he wants. When you think it's...... middle of paper ......ol. For this reason, it is difficult for children to follow their parents' example, they simply follow what others do. There is also not much discipline because parents pay little attention to them and lack of discipline leads to lack of respect. We need to start teaching more respect at home and at school. If more people were respected, this world would be a better place. Respect is like the root of all things good. With respect comes responsible people, kind people, fewer bullies, which means less suicide, less crime, more love and simply a better life. Let's teach the next generation to open doors for others, to help older people carry things, to listen to those in positions of authority, to treat others as you would like to be treated, to show kindness to all the world, even towards those who do not deserve it. maybe, just maybe, this world wouldn't be so bad.
