The company, founded in Flint, Michigan, in 1908, has been in the market for more than a century. Today, General Motors is the world's largest automobile manufacturer, with operations in more than 120 countries. The company's automotive operations meet the demands of its target consumers through its four automotive segments: GM North America (GMNA), GM Europe (GME), GM International Operations (GMIO) and GM South America (GMSA). It has four main brands in the United States: GMC, Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac. General Motors is the second largest automobile manufacturer in the world, with numerous divisions around the world collaborating on design and parts. By operating on a global scale, GM gains a competitive advantage over its competitors by reducing design costs. As part of its growth strategy, GM is investing in overseas markets and outsourcing jobs to China. After recovering from the Chapter 11 filing, General Motors made significant efforts to stay afloat.
