Essay / unknown bacteria - 1055
The sample for my report on unknown bacteria was obtained from the on/off button of the television in the living room of my house. I was intrigued by the idea of cleaning this part of my house, mainly because with two school-aged daughters and a husband who works in a sand factory and also spends the majority of his free time at the outside, there are a number of things that could grow on it. he. The television is wiped down every Sunday with an antibacterial wipe, and it interested me to see how well these antibacterial wipes work with what could possibly grow on a surface in seven days in a busy household. A sample has been obtained. from the TV button and was swabbed onto the nutrient agar plate. Various tests were performed on the resulting sample to help identify the type of bacteria that might be present. Bacteria were first transferred from the nutrient agar plate to another plate using aseptic technique. To begin testing the bacteria, a Gram stain test was performed to determine whether the bacteria was Gram positive or Gram negative, where a smear was made into a slide and examined under a microscope. After examining the slide, the sample results were determined to be Gram positive as the area appeared purple. Looking, the cell was shaped like a large stick. Acid-fast staining was then performed by processing a bacterial smear into a slide. This was also examined under a microscope and the sample was found to be acid resistant and had endospores as the area was pink in color. The sample was also inoculated into a semi-solid Sulfide-Indole-Motility (SIM) agar tube and was then incubated until the next laboratory period; after checking the results, the bacteria was found to be mobile because there was paper in the middle of each dish ordered, as well as rice at the buffet, from time to time. Also, when I prepare a meal for my family, we never all eat at the same time, so it is possible that this bacteria grew on the food I had also prepared. My daughters also like to play in the dirt, along with my husband who is an avid outdoorsman who works in a sand factory, and since this bacteria also lives in the soil, it doesn't surprise me at all to find this type of bacteria . which grows on the button of the television in my living room. There are a number of scenarios that can be applied to how this bacteria appeared on the TV button, but it is certain that there will definitely be many changes in our home as to how food is prepared and consumed in my house, because well and constant hand washing after being outside for a while.
