Because he grew up on a farm, Andy Goldsworthy is. an architect who knows how to create exterior works with natural materials Andy Goldsworthy was born in 1956 in a small town in Cheshire, but he grew up in Yorkshire. Somehow he knew he was going to be an artist when he grew up. At the age of thirteen, Goldsworthy worked on a Yorkshire farm where he learned to create his future masterpieces. On the farm, Goldsworthy learned to use a shovel and hide. an animal and built a stone wall for the sheep (Brunton). Goldsworthy studied at Bradford Art College from 1974 to 1975; then he studied art at Lancaster University for a further three years.
