Essay / Market Analysis: Pocahontas Memorial Hospital - 742
Market Analysis SummaryPocahontas Memorial Hospital (PMH), in the southwest region of West Virginia in Pocahontas County (see Appendix A) covering 942 square miles, is studying the feasibility of opening a satellite health clinic (CSU-Global, 2016). PMH is a 25-bed Level 4 trauma center and has a rural health clinic located within the hospital, offering laboratory services, immunizations, disease management and monthly specialty clinics (cardiology , podiatry and nephrology). Some of the obstacles The county currently faces a shortage of health care providers, with only one hospital, PMH, and one nursing home, Pocahontas Center. Additionally, the local economy is depressed; there is a significant barrier to accessing health care; and the region has difficulty attracting health professionals. With the shortage of health care providers, the ratio of primary care physicians is well above the national average at 8,508 to 1 in this rural community (County Health Roadmaps & Rankings, 2016).Mission. The project supports the mission, vision and goals of the organization. PMH is a federally designated rural health clinic whose mission is to be "the first choice in integrated health care by integrating excellence through continuing education, effective collaboration, and providing service to exceptional customers” (PMH, 2016). PMH is committed to excellence in providing “compassionate health care and promoting healthy lifestyles” and its core values include: • Being a collaborative partner in improving the health of our communities • Being a leader in patient education, prevention and awareness • Use evidence-based practices. in care delivery• Foster a culture that exceeds expectations• Maintain financial sustainability in a changing environment...... middle of paper ......st the system that enables comfortable speed for the first year . As CMS points out, providers can choose their pace of participation in MACRA, with a final decision expected by November 1, 2016 that will address the burden of excessive reporting, the unique problem facing PMH as a small rural facility and how technology can help patient care (Jjayanthi, 2016).SWOT AnalysisBy determining a company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, as Frue (2014) notes, the organization can better understand “pain points, customer needs and how to market more effectively”. (paragraph 1). A SWOT analysis is effective in determining the obstacles and opportunities that PMH may encounter when opening a satellite clinic. The goal is to gather information to determine or ensure the long-term viability of the clinic. (See below or Appendix D)
