  • Essay / Evolution of Graphic Design - 805

Graphic Design. A field that is constantly evolving and evolving. Graphic design has changed a lot over the years and continues to evolve. As technology evolves and trends change, those who make a living creating must change themselves and their design style. Although trends alone do not determine the evolution of graphic design, they are also modified by studies carried out to find out how and what colors and shapes make us want to have or do something. Graphic design, an art form called art. to create something through text, space and design. Although it's not what it used to be, the graphic design can be dated to the Lascaux Caves, cave walls with images of animals dating to around 17,000 years ago. Although it is not graphic design as commonly seen today, it is considered, in a sense, graphic design because it is an image that has been painted, although without the same intentions as those who design graphics for logos and other media. These caves can be seen as a place where design may have begun, but from there, as man expanded, design became more and more complex. It has become more digitized and done via computers. Graphic design was often used in books, with the font and images used, a good example of this is the Book of Kells which uses graphic design on some pages. Graphic design is now at the point where it is used daily by large corporations and small family businesses. It is used to represent something greater than itself and becomes the symbol of the entire entity. An example of this can be seen when asking someone to think of McDonald's, many would think of the golden arches that we recognize from miles down the road before we can see the building or even read the middle of a paper . .....so is doing studies on how zero space can enhance the appearance of a logo and can even send subliminal messages to those who look at it. A good example is the FedEx logo, between the E and the X you can see an arrow. This can mean a lot of different things to different people, but it generally conveys the idea that the arrow takes you where you need to go, just like FedEx takes your package where it needs to go. You can see all these different studies implemented in everyday life. Some examples of how they are used all the time around us are, for how color affects us, the McDonald's logo which is red and yellow, as well as the golden arches which are so iconic that they are more recognized as the Christian cross, Burger King, which uses red and Wendy's which uses red and yellow. Also for zero space, as mentioned before, FedEx is a company known for using it..
