Essay / Personal reflection on the film In The Woods
For the second event outside of class, I watched the movie “Into The Woods”. The film featured a mixture of many fairy tales, but they were side stories and helped advance the main character's story. The fairy tales I recognized were Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Tangled. The main characters were the baker and the baker's wife who had been cursed by a spell. In order to reverse the spell and have a baby, they had to obtain items from the original fairy tale characters, such as a blood-red cape or corn-yellow hair. The movie was fun to watch, but I didn't know it was musical. Maybe there was one song too many in the movie, but I'm not the biggest fan of musicals. The message seemed to be that in life you should act honestly and stick with your friends and family. Life gets tough and challenges arise, but if you have a support system, it's much easier to get through it. Say no to plagiarism. They changed characters throughout the story to convey to the characters certain ingredients allowing the witch to undo a spell. The baker seemed like a kind man with sincere ways of thinking, but he was doing actions that didn't seem normal to him. When trying to obtain the red cape, his first instinct was to steal it. When that didn't work, he apologized and lied to her while begging her. The baker believed that his wife's relationship and ability to have a child was reason enough to take such actions. He would not receive the cape until he saved Little Red Riding Hood from the wolf. He acted from the inside out and exemplified who he really was as a person. The baker even changed personalities with his wife throughout the story. He was acting self-centered by telling his wife that she was unable to find the necessary items and should have gone home. The wife said during their trip: “You are not the man who started it, we need two.” » She began to notice a change in the way he acted, his actions were no longer the ones he usually had. As soon as she was deemed more useful by finding the long blond hair, the baker wanted her to continue the journey. undecided throughout the story and showed the relationship between people's goals and how it affects the actions they take or how it can change the way they think.
